The port of Veracruz lived the takeover of its facilities on June 1st, 1991, when the Federal Government took over its administration and control, in order to handle merchandise correctly. On August 1st of the same year, the first private stevedoring companies began operating, bringing the benefits of competition and service development.
Finally, on July 19th, 1993, the Mexican Congress approved the General Ports Act, published on the Official Journal of the Federation on this date, whose purpose is regulation of ports, terminals, both maritime and port facilities, their construction, use, profit, exploitation, operation and management, as well as port services.
In addition to the publication of the Ports Act, the modality of Integrated Port Administrations is created, and on February 1st 1994, “Administracion Portuaria Integral de Veracruz S.A. de C.V” begin operations, renewed and constantly updated
FEATURES OF APIVER
APIVER is constituted in compliance with the Ports Act, as a Variable Capital Corporation, which is granted public assets property of the Federation, in concession for a period of 50 years, extendable to 50 years more, these assets are the facilities of the port of Veracruz and its building.
This way, APIVER acquires rights and obligations, amongst which:
Manage the facilities of the port, operate terminals, facilities and port services through third parties, by means of partial assignment of rights agreements. Third parties are selected in public bids and agreements in compliance with the concession deed for the facilities of the port, the Master Development Plan, and other important regulations. .
